Science teachers in Lagos receive training towards tooth-brushing world record

In ample time by way of preparation, HEIT Solutions, the project team for the Lagos World Record Toothbrushing Challenge, hosted the Teacher’s Alignment Training Session for over 300 teachers at Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Senior High School, Maryland Lagos State.

In this special training session, the project head Dr Lawal Bakare, a dentist and design specialist, took the teachers through the critical elements of the World Record attempt slated for July 4th this year where over 300,000 people will be gathered in multiple locations to brush their teeth simultaneously.

They were informed of the Guinness World Record standards for counting the number of students brushing in each school, the designed model for the toothbrushing as well as the waste recycling element to the attempt.

To further enlighten them, Mr. Rasheed Banire from LAWMA spoke to them on the need to inculcate proper waste disposal and recycling culture in the leaders of tomorrow and maintain Lagos state as a centre of excellence. Wecyclers, a social enterprise working to solve the urban waste management problem in Lagos is also working with HEIT Solutions and LAWMA in the area of Waste for Health Education.

Mr. Dexter Adeola from Unilever, makers of the Close-up brand of toothpaste and official partners of the Toothbrushing Challenge, communicated the Brand’s dedication Oral Hygiene care, saying that many families across Nigeria do not have access to Dental Health car, both due to proximity to dental clinics and cost of these services. He said one of cheapest way to ensure freedom from Dental problems was to brush twice daily- Day & Night.

He also educated teachers on Close-up Collection contest. This contest is such that the top three schools that collect most number of empty close-up packs will get an amazing reward on the World Record attempt day, July 4th.

It was a successful affair as the teachers expressed their delight at being involved in such a great and important project in oral health.

“This is a very good and enlightening session for the teachers conducted by HEIT Solutions for this project and it will empower the teachers in helping the students and all of us in breaking the world record. Training these teachers is the beginning of making preventive dental care knowledge an integrated part of school health club” said Dr. Yewande Adeshina, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health.

Dr. Olojede, the president of the Nigerian Dental Association solicited the support of the teachers stating that it is through proper participation of the teachers that the schools and the youngsters will be impacted.

The current world record for the number of people brushing their teeth simultaneously in multiple locations is 177,003  in India. The project is also supported by Core Media, Vas2Nets Technologies, LASAA and is also enabled by Volunteer Corps, Volunteer in Nigeria and Wecyclers.
